Packed with smells of black pepper and a meaty edge, the 2004 Black Opal Shiraz is a meal in a glass. With a burst of blueberry fruit followed by a vanilla finish, it can pose as dessert, as well. Easy sipping.

Our two bits

Following the Chardonnay, to complete the red-white one-two punch, load up on this Sandhill powerhouse. The 04 “two” has lush, ultra-concentrated fruit well-balanced with a hit of sweet, smoky wood. This is our favouite of the numerical Small Lots, and followed closely by the Cab-Syrah. This is a large wine.

B.C. Chardonnay

Chardonnay’s planted in every global nook and cranny and the Okanagan is no exception. Tasty Chards from our backyard are not uncommon, case in point this Nk’mip QQ version (2005). Fig, apple, and butterscotch with a big, toasty finish.

Meaty Wines

Cold, wet weather continues to be in the forecast. Time for another Sunday roast… this week’s meaty column highlighted a few ideas.
